Security operatives have arrested 10 suspects linked to theft of cattle from the State farm in  Gomba District

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told a media briefing on Monday that arrest was made by the Flying Squad Unit (FSU), in collaboration with territorial teams at Katonga Region and Gomba Central Police Station.

At least five cows went missing under suspicious circumstances on March 29 from the farm, leading to investigations by security operatives.

"A task team of FSU was dispatched from the Crime Intelligence Headquarters, which established that a one Robert Nyanzi, a cattle dealer from Lwekibira village, was buying stolen cows from the State farm," Enanga said.

"His arrest led to the tracking down of five other cattle dealers, who were also arrested."

The suspects are all cattle dealers from various villages in the district.

Additionally, four other individuals, including a veterinary officer, a cattle dealer, a peasant, and a farm manager, were arrested on March 5,  further implicating the involvement of insiders in the cattle theft racket.

"In unravelling the cattle theft racket, we discovered that the dealers conspired with workers at the state farm," Enanga said.

He commended the efforts of the Flying Squad Unit teams and territorial security in Gomba, reaffirming the police's commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in cattle theft.

The intelligence-led operations are ongoing, with authorities vowing to pursue all those responsible for perpetrating cattle theft from the state farm.
